👶 Realistic Baby Gear Recommendations from a 2nd-Time Mom
Planning for baby #2 means you’ve been through it once—and now know what’s truly worth the hype. Here's a tried-and-true list, on what’s worked, what didn’t, and what new items we are trying this time! One note- This list isn't exhaustive and I didn't initially make any bottle recommendations, but my tip is not to buy too many and to figure out what your baby likes. Hope it helps!
⭐ Our Must-Haves
On Becoming Baby Wise (Book) — Helped our first baby sleep through the night by 8 weeks! Hoping it works again. I have recommended it over the years and have heard a lot of positive feedback.
Chicco® Lullaby® Baby Playard (with bassinet)— We actually used this instead of a traditional bassinet; perfect height for beside the bed and safe for sleep.
Dekor Plus Diaper Pail — Hands-free, easy to use, didn't smell, and the refills last forever.
Gerber Birdseye Cloth Diapers (for burp cloths) — These were recommended to me by all the moms the first time around and I picked up more for baby #2. Budget-friendly and super absorbent.
Uppababy Vista Stroller & Mesa Car Seat — A splurge, but durable and we felt it was totally worth it. I know there are a lot of options out there now, we will be reusing ours and just purchased new carseats since ours had expired (age gap problems). (Update: Another option may be the Pipa Nuna carseat with adapters for the Vista stroller. I find it hard to get a great fit in the Mesa V2 for a newborn but it should fit better as she gets older.)
Hatch Rest Sound Machine — We did not think this was essential at first, but our daughter still uses hers so we registered for another one for this baby. How many baby items are you still using 7 years later?! (Update-Another budget option is the Momcozy which is very comparable!)
Fan for nursery + stroller fan for warm Florida days
Humidifier — Gentle mist during cold/flu season
Copper Pearl Multi-Use Covers — Soft, breathable, and super cute prints
Abiie High Chair — Easy to clean, ergonomic for feeding
ChooMee Starter Spoons — Encourage independent eating
Baby Brezza Bottle Warmer
Dr. Brown's Options Bottles- (Update- 2nd baby that prefers these bottles- so it's a must have for us.)
🤔 Not Worth It (for us)
Halo Bassinest — 1st baby wouldn’t sleep in it. Hoping it works better for the 2nd or we will go back to the Chicco Playard again. (Update: 2nd Baby does great in this bassinet and it was an absolute must have recovering from a c-section this time!)
Flower Sink Tub — Cute, but not practical. We much preferred a regular baby tub with an infant hammock.
4moms Pack n Play — Gorgeous and will use it at home this time, but not for travel. The folding mechanism broke on a vacation and we had to use a butter knife from room service to break it to fold it up! This time we registered for a basic Graco travel pack n play, less to break.
🛍️ Might Be Worth It (depending on your baby & budget)
Momaroo — Baby disliked it at first, tolerated later. We will see for baby #2. (Update- it didn't work when we brought it out of storage, bummer. But we are loving the Maxi Cosi Cassia Swing)
Lovevery Play Gym — Very pretty and high quality, but Fisher-Price worked just as well. (Update- We still love this and have been using it regularly. Plus it's so pretty.)
4moms Momaroo Swing vs. Fisher-Price Swing — Fisher-Price swing was bulkier but preferred by baby.
💡 Breast Feeding Items- That Made a Difference
Spectra S1 Plus Breast Pump — A must if breastfeeding. This one has a battery. My OBGYN just had a baby and assures me it is still the best.
Boon Trove & Haakaa Silicone Pump — Great for catching letdown while nursing
Earth Mama Nipple Cream
Wearable Breast Pump (Update- I don't know how i lived without the Elvie wearable breast pump for baby #1.)
👶 Newer Additions for Baby #2
Uppababy Minu V3 Travel Stroller- fits in airline overhead bin and can attach carseat! Very excited for this new product!
Maxi Cosi Cassia Swing — Lightweight and attractive. My coworkers got us this and it is so nice! Seems comparable to a larger swing but lightweight and pretty.
Snuggle Me Organic — Replacing the recalled Boppy Lounger which was a must have (used only under supervision- no sleeping).
Grownsy Car Seat Camera- so much better than a mirror and you can see at night.
Grownsy or Momcozy Bottle Washer- sounds like a game changer! (Update- I don't know how we lived without this for baby #1!)
Caden Lane- adorable swaddles and matching sibling pajamas <3
Update- Ergo Baby Embrace Newborn Carrier- We are on the go so much more with two kids so I needed a carrier during the newborn stage and this one has been the best. I also have a Moby wrap from baby #1 that works but this is a little faster to put on and feels more supportive.
Hope this list helps you complete your registry!
